The Writing Process

Prewriting – Prewriting is the process of figuring out what you want to write. It includes outlining your thoughts into a rough layout of your paper.

Drafting – Drafting is the process of creating a rough version of your paper. It creating a prototype of what it’s going to be like. Here is where you figure out the feel of how you want your paper to be .

Revision – Revision is the process in which you tune your writing. Insert the quotes you need or take out things you don’t like or add things you think it needs. Also have a friend read your work. If needed make multiple revisions.

Editing – Editing is the fine tuning of your writing. This is part where you read through the whole thing and make sure your grammar is correct and everything is structured correctly.

Publishing – This is when you create a final clean copy of your work to share with others.

The writing is process is like any other process in which raw materials are refined into and product that is valuable. In the same iron ore is refined to get iron, the same is done to create a final paper from a raw form. Depending on what you’re creating determines how many times you go through this process.
