The Rhode to fairness

Hello Audience,

Today I will be writing about an article that I read titled “Why Looks are the Last Bastion of Discrimination.” It’s a short essay addressing the moral dilemma of judging other on their look and giving more or holding back fairness.

Her essay begins with an example of a law prohibintg “unsightly” people from showing themselves in public. She builds on this theme through out the eassy.

I’m going to write her an email and I’ll tell you what it’s going to say.

“Dear Mrs. Deborah L. Rhode,

I’ve read your short essay entitled “Why Looks Are the Last Bastion of Discrimination” and find it very interesting. I somewhat agree with what you said while I find myself at times disagreeing. I believe that yes, there should be some for of discretion against this sort of thing. Preventing people from discriminating against other just purely based on looks. On the other hand, what differentiates looks from intellect? If you we’re hiring someone who needed a high intellect to do the job then why would hire someone else wasn’t fit for the job. Similarly, if you needed to fill a position that required someone to have a level of looks why would you hire someone that didn’t? I think it comes done to the individual business and them having their own autonomy. The decision is to be left to the company on such matters.

Best Wishes, Jack “
